This evening's meeting began with many tributes to and memories of our friend Les who left us on Sunday. Included was a poem from Barry Martin. It reads:
Les Smith I can tell you is no myth.
Zooming along in his motorised chair,
even if you ran you couldn't beat him there.
He shared his stories and poems for years,
the entire room always pricked up their ears.
His stories were good, his poems great
and we always knew he would never be late.
He always welcomed new members to our group
and if they were ladies he'd often be cocker hoop.
We will miss him, his friendly smile,
the poems and stories he used to re-gale.
Reunited with his Joan, we will miss him tickling our finny bones.
The meeting itself produced some good stories of 'Sharing', some of personal memories, some creatively written. As always the stories were very enjoyable and were a good indication of the quality of writing we are likely to encounter at our next meeting - The Bill Budner Trophy - that takes place on 19th May. Rules of the in-house competition are published at the top of the page.
Until then,
Keep Scribbling!!!
