Minutes of Scribblers meeting held on Tuesday 5 January 2016

Present:  Dave, Richard, Mairead, Jeanette, Liliane, Dick, Jane, Beryl, Caz, Marc, Cathy.
Apologies: Carolyn and Hayley

Business items:
The following notes and meal information have come directly from Dave. Thank you for this, Dave.
“After the long Christmas break it seemed quite difficult getting back into the writing regime. I guess I managed it with just hours to go before our first meeting of the year!

It was nice to welcome Marc to the meeting.

In case you weren't at the meeting we heard from Angela Petch that she and her husband Maurice were arrested in Tanzania and spent a night in prison with personal effects confiscated. They lost their flights back to the UK and were fined $3,000 for ‘smuggling’ a tiny impala horn... and she still found time to wish us all well.

Friend Morag has just returned from Singapore and Thailand, Ruth is back in Luxembourg whilst we’ve also had festive wishes from Chris in Cairns and Belinda and husband Geoff in Queensland and of course Suzy and Caroline too.

On the home front, Tom is moving house in Felixstowe and thinks it will be February before he will be able to ‘put the black to the white.

At the meeting we discussed the meal (on Tuesday 26th January at the Orwell) and the menu and despite only being able to select 3 items from all the options for each course we made our selections. I’m afraid there was some confusion and a little discord over the main courses chosen. Here is what we need to do quite quickly to appease the situation. Caz and I talked at length about this and have decided – hopefully you will all agree – that we have the choice of one fish meal, one meat meal and one vegetarian meal. This might mean your original choice has not been included and we apologise for this. Time is of the essence and we didn’t think the problems through before passing the menu round.  If you weren’t at the meeting and would like to choose another meal or come along then please email Dave asap at scribblers.1@btinternet.com.”

Back to Cathy’s notes

Homework readings on the topic ‘Resolutions’
Jeanette: Chapter two of the sequel to her novel. Chapter title ‘The doctor’

Beryl: Part two of her earlier story ‘The telephone kiosk’

Mairead: An unattainable New Year resolution

Jane: part of an ongoing story ‘Colin and Rosie’

Marc: Resolutions

Liliane: New Year, New Year

Richard: Mr Tompkins’ revenge

Dave: I hate porridge
Kicked out by my wife I moved in with my attractive work colleague. Gradually the fascination wore off and we had a violent row. I punched her and left, driving to Scotland when, shocked, I heard her body had been discovered. My resolution? Not to be caught by the police.

Dick: Rogue from beneath the waves
HMS Resolution, part of a wartime arctic convoy, successfully destroys a German U boat that has just sunk a British merchant ship.

Next meeting:    19 January – 1000 word stories for the Bill Budner trophy
