Sunday 3 August 2014

Our next meeting is very nearly upon us –this coming Tuesday 5th August at 7.30pm in The Room at the Top. Perhaps one may wonder why no subject was chosen for the 1,000 word homework. It was thought that an ‘open’ idea would be good. It means that you can write on any subject or chose something from your personal archive or even share an extract of an ongoing story or novel. The choice is yours this time!

On a personal note, thanks for the kind messages of support. As some progress is made daily I anticipate being at the meeting on Tuesday, maybe not up to my usual standard but I’ll be there somehow. It’s strange for with the Commonwealth Games, the end of the World Cup and  other major events I just haven’t been able to get into them and generally have avoided sitting zombie like in front of the TV... I can sit zombie like anywhere!

May I publicly thank Barry, Caz, Dick and everyone for ensuring our last meeting went off well and the meeting notes were very good too. Gratifying to know there are so many capable folk amongst us who can be called on in times of need.

Recently we held a committee meeting, the first one for a long, long time. The agenda included many things that will be covered at our next Scribblers gathering – including the post mortem on all that went wrong for the Scribblers Book Festival event. How pleased we are with the anthology – now on sale at both Stillwater Books and Mr Cobbler so don’t forget to support the sales points.

An agreement was reached for complimentary copies to go to John Goodwin who helped with funding, Scott for all he does for us, to Felixstowe Library and the Suffolk Record Office at Ipswich.  Dick will be (if he hasn’t already) deliver one to Richard Cornwell in the hope of getting a review in the local paper.

The main item  to affect membership is that, come November the annual twelve month fee will be increased to £30 – that’s an extra fiver and hopefully remains excellent value costing just over a pound per meeting which is sustainable with your support. The meeting by meeting fee will remain at £5 so you can see which gives better value! And as an aside we have managed to pay the rental for the remainder of the year.

Hoping to see you all on Tuesday...

Keep Scribbling,
