Minutes of Scribblers meeting held on Tuesday 15 March 2016
Present: Dave, Liliane, Richard, Mairead, Beryl, Jane, Hayley,
Jeanette, Jim, Cathy.
Apologies: Caz and Carolyn.
Business:
- Firstly we were delighted to welcome Jim,
a new member who’d travelled all the way from Woolpit to join us.
- The library service haven’t yet invoiced us
correctly for the room rental. We will pay what has been asked for so far,
and wait for an invoice for the remainder.
- Dave had received the following email from the
library staff:
I was wondering if the Scribblers could help us out. The library
building on Crescent Road opened 50 years ago in April. We are hoping to hold a
tea party for current and past members of staff and we wondered if the
Scribblers would write us a commemorative piece or poem about the library and
its place in Felixstowe. What do you think? Is anyone up for the challenge?
Also do you know about our Suffolk Writes campaign http://suffolklibraries.co.uk/reading-lists-groups-advice/suffolk-writes as
part of 2016 Suffolk Libraries Year of Reading?
- Jeanette is launching her new book ‘Exclusion Zone’ at Stillwater books, 6.30pm on 26 April. Let’s see lots of us there to support her!
- Our thanks go to Liliane for regularly
collecting the key, and to Mairead for bringing in the goodies once again!
Meeting:
Richard’s chosen
theme ‘On that particular Monday morning’ certainly stirred up the writing
juices in all of us – a real treat of an evening with some terrific tales read
out.
First reader was Jim,
a bit of a baptism of fire for him on his first visit, with his tale entitled
‘That Monday morning’ – and what a gripping, graphic story it was. We look
forward to more of the same in future!
Then we heard:
Cathy: Kelly’s
choice. On a rainy Monday, stranded at a bus stop, young Kelly reviews her life
situation, and realises that it is in her hands to change it.
Beryl: Confronting
the past
Liliane: A quiet
night in
Dave: Mondays.
On that particular Monday morning came the devastating news that my wife had
died in a multi-vehicle accident. Where was she going? The clues were on her
laptop. A sordid pornographic Cambridge photographer owed her money.
Confronting him I can’t remember what happened except now I’m charged with his
murder...
Hayley: Untitled
Mairead: The book
Jeanette: 30 rounds
Next meeting: Our next meeting is on Tuesday 5th April
starting at 7.30pm. The homework assignment is to write up to 1,000 words to
celebrate Felixstowe Library's 50th anniversary of the opening of the Crescent
Road premises. If this is not to your taste then please write on any subject of
your choice..
