Amnesty International short story competition

The Amnesty International Ely group is running a short story competition which we hope will be of interest to your group – possibly as a theme for a meeting, or just to enter the competition, which is also featured in the January edition of 'Writing Magazine'. Full details are given below.

Best wishes,

••••••••••••••

The Amnesty International Ely Group is running a short story competition! The winning writer will receive £50 and have their story published on the Amnesty International UK website. The runner-up will receive £25. The competition is for original, unpublished fictional stories written in English and a maximum of 1,500 words. They must be on a human rights or social justice theme (e.g. equality, discrimination, poverty, migration, people displaced by war, violence against women, slavery) and can be set in any country or time. Entrants must be 16 or over and based in the UK.

Writers can submit more than one entry. Submissions should be double spaced on numbered pages, typed in 12pt font and sent by email as Word (.doc) documents or pdfs to info@amnestyely.org.uk. The name of the author and the title of the story should be supplied in the subject line of the email. The story title, author’s name, email address, telephone number, word count and payment method (cheque or online) should appear on a front cover only. The story title only should appear in a footer at the bottom of each page.

All entries will be shortlisted to 10 standout entries by members from our group before a final round judged by short story author Dominic O'Sullivan. All entries must be received by 28 February 2014. All entries will be acknowledged. The prize winners will be notified on 30 April 2014 and all entrants will be sent details of where to read the winning entries.

There is a £5.00 fee for each entry, payable via http://www.graftonart.biz/products/amnesty/ or by cheque payable to “Ely Amnesty Group” and sent to Amnesty International Ely City Group Secretary, 20 Orchard Way, Haddenham, Cambridgeshire, CB6 3UT.
